Data collection and use

List of collected data

During your use of our services, you may be asked to provide the following information:

Surname, first name, postal and e-mail addresses, telephone number, gender, date of birth, profile photo, identification documents, driving license, geolocation information, credit card numbers, IBAN bank account number, vehicle reference (make, model, color, fuel, license plate, Crit’Air sticker), photo of transport card, favorite addresses.

Create a user account/profile

To create your account, we collect certain information about you. This processing is based on our contractual obligations.

Provision of our services

In order for you to benefit from our advertisement publication service, we are required to :

  • Create a public user profile on the application, visible to other community members.
  • Open the chat channel to members with whom you share an Experience or carpool (your number will not be communicated to other members).
  • Communicate your geolocation to members with whom you carpool, to make it easier for them to meet you.
  • Communicate with you – for example, to confirm a reservation or to let you benefit from our customer relations service.
  • Make payments to your credit card for Experiences Carpools and transfers to your bank account.

This data processing is necessary for the performance of our contractual obligations.

Safety and good manners are at the heart of our smooth operation.

When necessary, in cases of abnormal behavior or user reports, CAPTAIN BOB will analyze and evaluate user exchanges, interactions and discussions on the application.

Our teams of moderators will take all necessary and legitimate measures to maintain our interests.

User identity verification

In some cases, CAPTAIN BOB requests documents such as a driver’s license, proof of identity and/or proof of address. These documents and the information they contain are used for security purposes to verify users’ age, authenticity and accounts. The documents and information may also be passed on to our banking partners as part of the European fight against money laundering. The sole purpose of this data processing is to ensure the security of our users and to combat fraud.

Recommend Experiences and Events.

CAPTAIN BOB analyzes your geolocation data during and outside carpooling experiences. This information is used to suggest activities to you in a personalized way by displaying recommendations on your profile. This data processing is based on your consent when you fill in your User Profile.

Prove that an Experience; that a carpool has been finalized

CAPTAIN BOB analyzes your geolocation data during the Experience/carpooling, in order to verify that the Experience/carpooling has taken place and to trigger the driver’s payment and the passenger’s debit. This processing of your data is based on our legitimate interests (combating fraud).

Improving our services

We analyze your activity and your interactions with the application in order to improve our services (e.g. improve the mobile application interfaces or user service messages). This processing is based on our legitimate interests.

Developing our member community

We carry out a certain number of actions (e.g. sending newsletters, sending notifications in the application, setting up competitions, facebook groups, etc.) in order to develop our community of members. The processing of personal data for this purpose is based on our legitimate interest (to develop our user base) and/or on your consent.

Return assistance

If your carpools are eligible for a return assistance program, we will forward your contact details and addresses to our partner carriers. This processing of your data is based on your consent.

Sharing data with partners

CAPTAIN BOB works with certain partners and service providers to whom it may transmit data concerning you, subject of course to your consent where necessary. These data recipients include

  • The service providers we use to provide you with our services, such as payment service providers, providers of analytical solutions, hosting, messaging, or identity verification;
  • Transport services that implement our return assistance program, where applicable;
  • The social networking platforms to which you can link your CAPTAIN BOB account, particularly at the registration stage;
  • The public partners with whom we provide our services in certain territories;
  • Private partners who have chosen CAPTAIN BOB for their company carpooling program;
  • Public authorities that set up a carpool proof register and/or pay subsidies to carpoolers through us;

CAPTAIN BOB anonymizes and aggregates journey information, itineraries and certain user profile characteristics in order to produce usage statistics for third parties.

Shelf life

CAPTAIN BOB undertakes, in accordance with the provisions of the RGPD, to keep personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which they are processed. Your account data is kept until you request to close your account and archived 1 year after its closure, or 5 years after your last use of our service if you have not closed your account.

Financial data (e.g. payments, refunds, etc.) are kept for the period required by applicable tax and accounting laws.

Geolocation data is stored for 1 year.

In the event that an account has been suspended or blocked, we keep the data for a period of 5 years from the date of suspension in order to prevent any circumvention of the rules in force on our platform.

Safety measures

CAPTAIN BOB implements appropriate security measures to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction or accidental loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access, and against any other processing of data that does not comply with our privacy policy.

Data control and access

You have the right to access, rectify and delete your data. You have the right to request the restriction of certain processing operations and to object to certain processing operations. You have the right to portability of some of your data.

You can exercise your rights by sending a request to contact@captain-bob.fr. You will be asked to show proof of identity.

If you feel that your rights are not being respected, you can take your complaints to the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL).

You can close your CAPTAIN BOB account directly in the application from the “Help Center / FAQ” section.
